SoThink Web Video Downloader for Firefox review
SoThink web video downloader is a Free add-on for your firefox internet browser. It basically gives you the ability when browsing web video sites to, at the the click of a button, capture the web video you are viewing.
Installation proved to be a little tricky for us as the firefox button once installed did not seem to match the screen shots from their web site. We ended up having to manually add it from the “customise toolbar” option from your Firefox tools menu.
Overall the plugin seems to work well for the price! However it has 2 annoying features which let it down;
- When you download a video clip you it takes you to their website
- It has no file conversion abilities unless you upgrade and pay for that extra feature
If you pay for the upgrade (which we didn’t), you are then competing against the paid versions which we believe do a better job.
The other annoying feature is that when you are installing the add-on it wants to configure your browser to make Ask.com the default search toolbar! We’re not a fan of this type of sneaky coercion!
On the positive side it does support a wide range of video sharing sites you can capture web video from.
All in all due to the annoyances listed above we only gave it a 3.5 star rating ![]()
